I did nothing , when the plane was launched it rolled about 5 feet then did a loop as the bellcrank locked in up nothing I could do. NOT Fun I really liked this plane. Windy has had video of repairs which was very much the inspiration for the repair.

Walt,
Did you find out what caused the lock up? While you have the wing in two halfs check all the motion of the bellcrank, leadouts, pushrods. Even a small bind can cause a problem at full tension with normal vibration. Keep us informed what you find.

Dennis , The Bellcrank was carbon fiber and the bearing is a ball bearing, and was mounted on a 1/8 piano wire. It was secured by Eyelets on both sides of the bellcrank. One of the eyelets let loose and the bellcrank came off the ball bearing and locked up. See picture. It would be best to use JB Weld if using this set up.

That does look bad.  But as Windy says, keep all the pieces you can find.  I lost my Sheeks Spitfire because the rod vibrated/move out of the bottom ply plate.   I now make sure there is ply top and bottom on the rod as well as notches for the wheel collars.   o far so good. D>K

Walter...sorry to see your nice Spitfire busted up like that. I hope you'll add some fiberglass (and not that weenie 3/4 oz stuff) over the repairs. Maybe two or three layers...

OBTW, I contacted Windy for his suggestions for grafting a whole new nose onto Pete Peterson's old Sultan, which was tailheavy and had a 1/8" balsa nose doubler go soft. Windy's reply was very negative and suggested building a whole new fuselage. When I contacted him, I stated that I intended to build a new nose back past the wing highpoint and fiberglass the new nose on with 2 oz glass & epoxy. The thing was tailheavy anyway, so intend to extend the nose an inch and install a RO-Jett .76/pipe. Rumor has it that there's 5 oz of lead in the nose, so I could possibly end up with a lower net GVW.  :o Steve

Yes Steve I will be adding fiberglass cloth both inside and outside. the fuse doublers broke in places where I could use 1/64 ply over the breaks for strength. The way it broke makes for a descent repair. Now the wing that is another issue !!!! Will be doing that this week so far so good. It has a dihedral and was a take apart so too many areas to line up correctly it will be a challenge.

Walt use this http://www.easycomposites.co.uk/#!/fabric-and-reinforcement/carbon-fibre-reinforcement/woven-carbon-cloth-under-400gsm/plain-weave-200gsm-3k.html
Place the cloth with 3M77 spray wherevr you need to fix or reinforce then hit with thin CA. You don.t need epoxy to use composites especially for fixing stuff. The 3M77 should be very light it is there just to keep the cloth in position. Use this on the inside of the fuselage and that should make the finishing the outside of the model easier. Same technique applies if you use glass.
