cap strips

Here's an idea that I stumbled across, probably everyone already does it this way, I am a slow study, but, here goes.....
"Drumroll, please"
,.......radius your capstrips before you glue them on the ribs!
That's all, folks.

You mean we were supposed to radius them?

By radius, I assume you mean round off the edges that the covering will sit on?
Do you do this on the back of the L/E and sheet T/E where it turns in to an open bay as well?

Neville, correct...plus it's recommended to have 90 degree half circles of balsa present at the 90 corners of the
LE / TE sheeting.

Yes, just to avoid any sharp edges where the covering becomes open bay. dg

How about radius them over a light bulb to get them to conform to the curve of the ribs also. What do y'all say ??

Dale:
You mean you haven't been doing that all along? It's also a good idea to block sand the edges lengthwise to insure that they are straight and smooth.

Like I said, I'm a slow study. The edge to be radiused I'm refering to is the "length-wise" dimension, like Bob referred to. dg

I always sand the wing (with cap strips) with a sanding bar. I think this knocks off any edges. My method of glueing cap strips: I lick the top of each cap strip before applying glue to the rib. This causes the cap to bow slightly, better matching the curve of the rib.

While in the fever pitch of adding cap strips, licking is the most convenient way (well, almost) of making the cap strips wet.

When you are licking and zapping the capstrips in place always remember - trim to lenth, lick, CyA, position on rib.
Mixing up the middle 2 steps taste bad and can glue yer tounge to your lip!
