TA 152 plans/no instructions?
« on: November 11, 2011, 09:55:22 PM »
Stupid question from novice builder.
I bought a RSM TA152 last years and I finally opened the box. Lots of wood and stuff. Nice plans, no instructions or manual. Am I supposed to wing it? Or do I need a manual/instructios.
If it is a "wing it job", is there a general set of instructions for building up a plane like this online?

Hi Mike ,

First off , I don't have that kit ...

On the RSM web-site , there are PDF files for the Mackey Lark , and they state that those plans can be used for building the majority of the RSM kits .

Check it out . If the tutorial doesn't help , then I'm at a loss .

Good luck ,

Actually, yes. You're supposed to "wing it". Everything you need to know is on the plans. RSM makes a few assumptions about the builder of some of the kits. The TA 152 is not a beginner airplane, therefore they assume the builder has some experince going off plans. Most of RSM's kits are that way, including the Tempest I built last year.
If you're really a novice builder (like less than 5 models) or have never constructed a full fuse kit before, maybe set this one aside for a while. The Sig Chipmunk might be a good one. It comes with a booklet. So does a lot of the Brodak kits.
When you do build the TA 152 and have questions, you might contact Keith Trostle. It's his design and he is on these boards often.

Most kits I have seen have nothing like a manual or detailed instructions. They have the parts, and the plans. This goes back almost forever - the first "instruction manual" I ever saw for a control-line kit was the SIG Magnum, from the mid-late 80s. And the little box on the corner of the Nobler plans.

Thanks for the info guys, until I figure out a sequence of assembly I'll get started on a Brodak Spitfire. This 152 is probably a something I can tackle next year.

Probably a wise decision.

I am in the middle (almost) of getting the build article together for the TA152 for Eric - if you check out the Mosquito build article on his site http://rsmdistribution.com/guides/mosquito.pdf - this is what I am doing for the 152.....I also did the Lark one (before I figured out the best format)
By next year - I will be able to e-mail you to completed article for you to follow step by step.....

Thank you Wynn.
I checked out the article and culled what I think are the common denominators.
I wrote down a sequence for the wing, but the fuse looks like a trap. I'm going to start on the Spit and hope to start the T152 next Spring.
What is the target weight for the plane less engine?

not sure at this stage - I'll let you know once I get closer (mine is electric with retracts so will be a little heavier)

the fuse is a bit of a mission - but you will see how I do it in the article......
