Title: What size CF tube for control rods
Post by: RknRusty on December 17, 2013, 07:38:48 AM
Sorry to skip the search, but I'm on the fly, near the hs, and my go-to forum is down.
What size cf tubes and music wire for 1/2A and .35 size control rods?
Thanks

Rusty

Well, I bought .098" ID CF tube. It has more wiggle room with 1/16" wire than I like, but with a little V bend to snug the wire, JB Weld should hold it. Hope y'all approve.

I hope that's for the 1/2-A models.

The question is one of those whose best answer is "it depends".  I tend to use 5mm or better OD arrow shafts for big models, and 3mm OD tube for my 1/2-A models.  But I had a Fancherized Sig Twister for a very productive few months (before I stupidly crashed it) that worked great with 4mm OD rods.

I decide whether a rod is stiff enough by pressing the ends together -- if the rod bows enough that I can feel it get springy, then I use something bigger.

This is 4mm OD x 2.5mm ID, so the wall is 1.5mm thick. I do have a 1/2A use for it, but I was hoping to use it on the Sterling Yak-9. It feels pretty stiff, but I haven't cut it yet so it's hard for me to tell. I'll decide when I do the springy bow test. Thanks, Tim.

0.75mm -- remember that as you go through the middle of the tube you hit the wall twice.

That should work just fine.

Uh, Duh, yeah. ::) It's measuring mistakes like that that keep me from being an expert builder. Measure 4 times, cut once, throw it in the trash.

Sounds like you need to do more draw a picture first, then draw how you will measure the picture.  Make a mock-up if necessary...
??? ::) reminds me of physics class :-\
