BUILDING THE STILLETO BY M&P (DICK MATHIS GROUP)
« on: August 01, 2012, 08:41:29 AM »
I built the Stiletto 660 by Walter
see thread  http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=20093.0

Well, I have become addicted to Stilettos. Was saving to buy another 660 from Walter, but found one on eBay from the early to mid 70's. I saw this kit at Orange Blossom Hobbies in Miami, Fla circa 1979. I was flying Combat with Nemesis and S.T's G21-35s. I also had a Sig Kougar with a K/B 6.5 painted as the box.
Had just finished building the Gesieke Nobler. Had no money left to buy the Stiletto. But when I got the green, it was gone! I could not pass this one up. I just had lost a bid on the Ercoupe by M&P on ebay  the day before because I forgot to add more $. Enough of the long story.
I got the Stiletto. TODAY!!! y1 y1 y1 #^ #^ #^ ~> ~> <= <=

Now, I KNOW that many of you have built this one. And with the experience and knowledge that I will absorb from the tips and suggestions everyone offers, I will be in ever indebtedness. BW@ BW@
The questions:
What should I improve (if any) on this kit for a tighter current stunt requirements. Not that I fly there yet. But would like to have the ship ready.
Would an LA 46 do well enough to fly this aircraft to modern stunt requirements? Any other engines?

Thank you for your thoughts
 H^^

Is the one you just obtained an old M&P kit?  If so, it has 585 sq inches of wing area. On mine I use the ST.46 or OS .46 LA-S.  On the actual 660 I have installed an ST .51. One can never have too much power.
You're right, these things are addictive. I now have 5.  H^^ y1 #^ D>K

HEY TY!!!

Yep. The M&P kit from ebay   #^ #^ y1 y1

The 660  I built last winter, has cracks on the nose and cover due to the Evo .60 dropping the prop/spinner and doing a screaming turn @ ~ +20k.  %^  No problem, the engine survived. Have not had time to repair.
I have the LA-46. Which one do you like better. Did you do any mods?

I may have to sober up and go to a center for the treatment of Stiletto addiction... LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ DK^

Hi Rafael,

Aaron and I have a M&P Stiletto kit (thanks, Ty!) and have considered the Aero Tiger .36 per Randy Smith's suggestion.  However, I do have a ST .46 (a few) and would not hesitate using one of those.  I suspect an OS .46LA would do a fine job, too!

Got my Stiletto today!!! The only build-up is the wing...It looks so small compared to my 660!!I will start building it once I clear my small little bench in the shared garage. It's too hot and humid to build anything in there.

FYI  beware of weight.  I have an M&P Stilletto and the first thing Les McDonald said when he saw it was," DON'T BUILD IT."  It has been davised by others also to just clone the kit with light wood as it is too heavy (the wood in the kit).

Ah,  one of these days...

I had two of each run and the weight difference was about 12 ounces. That is some heavy balsa. I too had to replace several pieces for lighter stuff.  I still have one  of each run. One had the long tail and thinner wing, the other run had the tall tail and a thicker wing. I prefer the 660 by Walter Umland.  The two M&P kits were reduced to 585 squares, I assume to get the wood into the boxes.  Yet, if built light, they do fly very well.  H^^

12 OUNCES!!! Holy cow, what do you replace? I don't have the time to build a perfectly kitted Walter Stiletto (took me 7 months and used paint and Ultracote) never mind taking all the parts and copying them! Well, I'll just see what I can use... The way I fly, I might be a good thing to be a little heavy on the balsa...

I think the M&P kit used the Sig Super Chipmunk Wing. I built one from the plans and used the Chipmunk wing and it was the same as the kit. It was a very good flying model with a ST/40 in it.
