Title: Vector 40 tail moment length
Post by: kevin king on January 19, 2022, 11:54:04 AM
Anyone know the the correct distance from the wing TE to stab TE? The plans measure  14 3/4" but the fuse sides are cut at 15"

I personally wouldn’t worry about it and build it to the length that is cut on the sheet

When the sides are pulled in at the tail it becomes shorter and then shows what is on the plans?
"Gotta think in 3D"
Build it with the cut parts......

A 1/4" more or less in the tail moment arm length won't make a difference in a plane that size.  Take the pieces as cut, use the plans as a guide, and make it all fit with a minimum of cutting and hacking of the parts provided.

Definitely not within the worthy of worry about zone. An inch maybe maybe. Two inches probably. Bottom line, it'll fly just fine like that.

FWIW, I have a wrecked ARF downstairs that measures a little less than 14 5/8". Experience has shown me that plan copies can vary by more than 1% and by different percents in different directions. That's a bit over 1/8" in your dimension. As said, that error wouldn't affect your control feel enough in itself.

You have it lying flat on the plans.  The fuselage sides are not straight, it gets narrow at the rear so it would have to be longer to go around the corner.
