Vector 40 kit
« on: February 20, 2022, 12:58:20 PM »
Anyone know if the Vector 40 has air outlets for the motor, or they arent needed? The plans, booklet and photo on the box make no mention of them.
Thanks.

They are definitely needed.

Odd that this should come up. I was flying with a guy that assembled a Vector 40 ARF and flew it for the first time last weekend. The engine struggled thru a short tank. He took it home and cut some decent sized holes in the bottom of the cowling and it now runs without apparent overheating.

I attached a picture of the cowling on my Vector for reference. This plane was rebuilt from the wing forward from an ARF. I read thru the "build it yourself" kit plans and then modified things to my situation. The slats in the bottom are basswood. It is held on by two 4-40 screws into t-nuts into crosspieces in the fuselage. The cowling internally has features to guide the airflow. You don't want stagnant pockets of air in the cowl around the engine. But you knew that....

Thanks for the reply and photo Dave. I guess going from scratch building to kit building is not working out the way I expected. That's all I will say.
