Hi ,
I've been going through several posts , concerning urethane finishes ( MinWax , mainly), but due to my location (Canada) , I'm having trouble discerning the differences between Canadian product names and U.S. names .
At this moment I have a can of Minwax "Helmsman" spar varnish (urethane) . I'm wondering if this would be an "OK" finish , that would be a good fuel-proofer ?
Any input would be appreciated :)
Thanks !

the Helmsman spar varnish in the rattlecan is indeed fuelproof, at least as much as anything is. I use it as a topcoat over paint that isn't, and it holds up well. A surprisingly light coat is all that's needed. Besides that it's *shiny*. Just give it a couple days to cure out before you fly.

Thanks, Ray. I have some of that, but have never used it on an airplane! Glad to know it will work for us.

Look on the can and see if it says anything about being Alcohol resistant after it's cured. I went to our local Home Depot and bought 5 or 6 cans of different brand polyurethane just to run some tests. The ones that stated they were resistant to Alcohol were all fuel proof, the ones that didn't weren't.

I've used Minwax and found it fuel proof , But it is vary hard finish tends to chip easy, and a lot of polishing to get the finish I wanted. I have change to PPG automotive clear with less work and great finish and vary shiney...... #^ #^ #^ #^ #^ #^ #^ #^
