Title: Umland Chipmunk II - The Nose (pics) *updated 10/19/07
Post by: Clint Ormosen on October 17, 2007, 02:47:23 AM
Back on the Chipmunk tonight. Started to sand out the bsic shape of the nose and cowl. The top block is tacked in place and the cowl is taped on. There is still more shaping to do because the cowl is obviously not supposed to be flat in front.
Also, please envy the oh-so-tasty brand new Veco spinner. Thanks to Gary Widmer for that period correct piece.

If you'll notice in the first pic, on the plan it says the spinner is a 2". The nose ring provided in the kit was 1 3/4". After a talking to Walter U., I found out that the correct size is 1 3/4". The plan has a misprint. This is for all of you that have this kit. H^^

Here is some of the cowl work. I added a little piece to fit under the nose ring snugly. The top block is sanded to shape and ready to be pulled off. I'll mark the canopy position and then hollow the block. Also the cowl is pretty close to shape and will be hollowed and the appropiate holes cut into it. I've marked the holes for the engine and can drill those out too.
