Title: TUTOR
Post by: John Desrosiers on May 16, 2011, 09:59:32 AM
I would like to know every thing I can before starting my Top Flite Tutor. What engine and tank to use. Is it an easy build? This is an old kit from the 70,s or 80,s Thanks for any info.

Kreth McKey has the only Tutor I have seen other then then ARF Tutor II. It is a little smaller then the II.

Kreth has a Fox .35 on his and it flies the pattern just fine.

LA .46 is my engine of choice, but might be a little too much power  for the Tutor if there is such a thing. LL~

Hi Paul. Like I stated, it depends on the weight of the wood in the kit. Early kits were noted for heavy balsa. Balsa wood is balsa wood. NOT. D>K

I hear ya Ty. Maybe with a heavy Tutor the 46 is in order. Kreth built his very light. Matter of fact the tail was so thin you could see it twist in flight.  H^^

Hi john,

If no canopy can be located, just make one out of balsa and sand to shape.
It'll last A LOT longer than the plastic one.

"Tight Lines!" H^^

And if you really want a plastic on they are real easy to make with a large plastic soda bottle and a heat gun.

You will have to make a plug out of wood, then cut the bottom of the bottle out and shove it in tight. Heat it and it will draw around the plug. If you have a colored bottle even better.
