Given some timber thatd been under a iron roof for ten years , Also the mid west balsa in a newsagent had been ten years in the afternoon sun through the frosted glass door . ' Kiln dried ' , strewth .
So thats a few places to store your ' fuselage ' balsa . Tough as an old goat .
In the 70s the wood was jungle grown , and selected . NOT plantation wood . So the growth rate varied considerably . There was real close grained hi strength tough light wood .
Put over your knee & pushing down the ends , some was very stiff , also in twist . Though maybe only a sheet or three in the one crate in any thickness .
When the boat building timber was being unloaded and stacked , it was ' blistering barnacles earscorching time ' , the Timber was the Priority . Not the etequite . or was it the etequite of storing timber .
WHATEVER , if your wood is SUNBAKED for a number of years , Its intestinal fortitude is considerably increased . Should be stored FLAT , preferably with cross thingos , so it can ' breath ' .
You notice the blotting paper fresh green wood , 20 years back , after a few summers would attain the marvelous golden hue , with the grain then decipherable & visable .
After ten years ( or 20 :P ) its toughened up considrably . to the point where rib cutting can be a trial , pilot cut - main cut - freeing cut . Though remember was the proceedure on the balsa
we got in N Z 50 years ago .
So FUSELAGE WOOD , you go for the closest grain stuff available , and do a bit of shaping and sanding . though selectively stored ancient woods gunna be much tougher .

The bloke was a Australian who had been involved in the cutting & milliing of timber for the Mosquito's in the U. K. in the war .
