Title: Strega ARF refinish question
Post by: Jim Oliver on May 06, 2007, 08:55:58 AM
Hey guys,

I am about ready to begin work on the Strega ARF.  I plan to completely strip and recover the whole thing.
I would like a dope finish but am concerned about my ability to get a decent finish without too much weight gain.

Do any of you have an idea which would be heavier--plyspan/dope vs. Ultra/Mono Cote?

Thanks,
Jim

My money would be on monokote. If It were mine I would Monokote the flying surfaces and paint the fuselage.

Hi Jim,
One good thing, I'll see you at Ken's Saturday!

The Strega is a big airplane but do not let that keep you from silk & dope finish. The last Strega that I built from a kit and applied a silk & dope finish weighted just a tad over 66 ounces, which is a respectable weight for this ship, power by a ST60V. I have heard of ARF Strega's weight at around 70 ounces, wich does not seem heavy at all when compaired to my first Sig Magnum that weighted a whooping 76 ounces.

Remember she is a BIG ship.

Mike,
Hope to finally meet you at Ken's!!  Weather may be a factor---again, but we need to gang up anyway.
