Source for 0.005" thick CF/epoxy unidirectional strip
« on: May 07, 2016, 08:01:24 PM »
Has anyone found a source that sells thin (0.005, 0.007) CF/epoxy, with unidirectional strand, already made up?

I found someone selling 0.007" thick CF, but it's woven.  I'll use it, but I really want material for capstrips for spars without having to make up my own.

Thanks.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Tim, not sure how much you need. For a small quantity, and your description

"Mic" says 0.007"

Your LHS....or Tower Hobby....should stock Dave Brown CF stuff...and the tuned pipe rear mount...even though DB sold off his product line except for the spinners and adapter stuff, which he's still doing himself. Must like programming and running a CNC lathe?  :P Steve

My LHS is kinda spotty on this sort of thing -- he really likes supporting builders, but on the other hand he has this silly notion that he ought to be able to pay his bills and have enough left over to live on.  So there's lots of toys at eye level, but there's stuff to support builders elsewhere.

Tim,
What is your source for the 0.007 woven CF cloth? What is the weight?

Best,   DennisT

I never did weigh them The Composites Store.

They look like they have lots of good stuff.

Tim, the stuff you posted the link for is unidirectional. Wow, that was easy!

CST was founded and owned by Matt & Gail Gewain, who was '83 F1A World Champ (in Goulburn, NSW, Australia...I was there!). They sold it a few years ago and retired. Matt still flies a pretty mean F1C, as does Dick Mathis (aka "Fast Richard").   y1 Steve

Tim - try this:   http://www.acp-composites.com/acp-cat.htm

Thanks Robert.  I checked the link and it said it was old.  A bit of digging got me to a current page.

Tim, If you haven't seen the Dave Brown stuff, I can bring a roll to Fall Follies/Salem.

I know it's out there -- I'm just responding to the thread.  Having spawned it, I feel it's my responsibility to respawn respond.

I use the Dave Brown stuff but, I'd like to find some that's 3/16ths wide so I don't have to cut it to width.
