Title: Silkspan techniques

I just began building again after a 30 year absence from it. All I need is a very BASIC crash course ..3 or 4 steps to get me back in gear..any links or other help would be greatly appreciated.....thanx in advance..Bob ???

3 coats of clear on the airframe. Apply silkspan shinney side up, damp. Grain running long wise. Pull tight all around and dope parimeter. Wait till dry ,apply dope.

Bob: Also Butyrate will go over Nitrate, but Nitrate won't go over Butyrate ( heep big mess) DV^^ DV^^ DV^^ j1 j1 j1 HH%% HH%%

Thanx, Leester. In my research, I ran across a thread that highly reccommended nitrate over butyrate. What are your thoughts on this? HB~>

Nitrate OVER butyrate???  I hope I didn't write that!  ;D

I always use nitrate as the base, and to apply the silkspan.  Then it goes back into the cabinet!  Everything after that (of the clear dope variety) is some form of butyrate.

Nitrate usually makes a gooey mess of butyrate.  y1

Bob: I figure they are prefering Nitrate to Butyrate. Nothing wrong with that, but nitrate will need to be fuel proofed.

Ahhhhhhh.......... nitrate "over" butyrate as a preference??  For my money, it's a "no brainer".  Nitrate fills quicker (with out any more weight) and is much, much "stickier". y1  Haven't found any clear butyrate made by anyone that "sticks" as good as nitrate.  And I've tried about all the butyrate dopes known in the world over the past 40 plus years! HAHAHAHA!

But, like I said, you cannot get away with applying nitrate "over" butyrate.

Geeezz..... I get easily cornfused! **)
