Hi Walt,

The 3/16th" will definitely work, but you can use 1/2" if you want.  I would not remove much wood from the rear section of the fuselage since profiles are so easy to twist while maneuvering in flight.

I have a Fancherized Twister and a mostly stock Banshee, and they both fly OK.

The Twister kit came with one hard flap and one soft one; I replaced the soft one with some wood that matched the stiffness of the hard one.  The Fancherized twister calls out a larger tail area, which I made on mine by building up an entirely new tail structure, so it's no help there.

The Banshee had the wing moved forward by the previous owner, and was originally built flapless.  It used the kit tail feathers, and I added flaps out of 3/16" material (I think I cut them from the Twister plans).

Both seem to fly fine.  I can't compare them to anything better than a TopFlight Score, though.  The Score flies marginally better as far as I can tell, but I think that's mostly because it's just a bigger plane.
