Side mounted engine cowl tips
« on: January 07, 2021, 11:24:10 AM »
Hi, I was planning on using a side exhaust engine, k&b .61, and probably put a tuned pipe on it as per Randy Smith's set up tips. Now, I'm tempted not to because I would have to angle the motor at about a 45 degree down angle to get the pipe down the center of the fuse.
The big factor at the moment is, can it look good in a cowl, or will I make my otherwise "gorgeous" plane look bad. I suppose this might work best with a round cowl on a warbird of some kind. But it's not, I've got flat sides down the side of the plane.

Any photos that actually make it look good or bad? Or, do I need to buy a RE engine. Anything less than $400?

  David,
If I hear you correctly you plan to run a K&B .61 on a pipe , if you have not yet done so be sure to run it on the bench before you commit the build. I tried a pipe on a K&B .61 & it wouldn't stay lit... not saying they won't run on a pipe but mine would not.
    Good luck ,  John L.
