I had an empty can of Brodak thinner boomerang on me as I tossed it today. It seems to me that if this stuff is solderable, I have found a cheap source for making my own fuel tanks. It sure appears to be light enough. Has anybody ever tried to stick this "can metal" togather?

I will try to solder later tonight, unless someone here knows for sure.

What do you guys think?

Hi Greg,
I have used thinner cans many times fo make tanks. Gallon dope cans, too. Strip the paint where it needs to be soldered, don't wire brush it or sand it very heavily since it will cause the "tin" to be removed and it willnot solder too good then.

Added: the can material is a *little* bit heavier than "bought" tin, but it isn't that noticable.

Thanks Bill, I am looking forward to my next tank project now.

I dont think I would have thought to use the cans if they were painted, but the dope thinner can is already bare metal, and flat.

It's been a very long time, but when I was young and very poor, I made numerous tanks from K&B fuel cans. By the time I was done, the solder probably weighed more than the can metal. Russell
