Title: RSM Derringer

Awhile back I snagged a RSM Derringer kit off Ebay - any mods I should make ? ....for those of you that have bulit one, what would you do different ? Power is going to be a T&L Tigre .51 -  I'm toying with the idea of totally sheeting the wing ...your thoughts ?   Thanks in advance.

Great flying plane. Like most others of the era, it needs to be built light.

Gene, if you build this stock, and keep it on the light side, you will have an OUTSTANDING stunter with the ST 51.  I'll build another one eventually, plan on changing nothing!  The Derringer is one of those stunters that is easy to fly well!

HI Gene,

Unless you just have a hankering to sheet the wing, I wouldn't.  Build it by the book, make it as light as you reasonably can, and it should be awesome.  Ol' Alfadawg can design a great stunter. ;D

Awesome model that can do pretty well with a modern engine.

My friend built one  with a ST G51 but it end up very nose heavy. He replaced the engine for an Enya SS50 which is much lighter and the plane balanced better. RSM kits comes with great balsa and his Derringer came out very light.

Perhaps making the stab/elev a bit bigger would balance better with an ST G51.  By looking at Bob's original plan it looked to me that the stab/elev was larger then in the RSM plan.

Here is the video of my friend flying his Derringer, observe how well the engine keeps the speed going up and down on the V8 and HG.

yup and that was one of the first flights, we got the engine running much better now after fine tuning the fuel tank height. Launching at above 10300~10600rpms it develops a tremendous amount of torque.

I bet one can have it running in the stomping 4-4-4 without too much trouble too.
