Title: Ringmaster Jr. wingtip weight
Post by: Dave Nyce on July 17, 2013, 07:47:14 AM
Rebuilding an old Ringmaster Jr.  How much wingtip weight is needed?  Planning to use a McCoy Redhead .19, is that the correct size engine?

I think 3/4 ounce should do the trick.  A lot depends on the line sizes and if all the heavy ribs were put in  the out board wing.

Hi Dave,

I agree with Doc, 3/4 oz. will probably do.  I used a McCoy .19 Red Head on mine back around 1964.  It did a good job!  Just remember the oil needs of the Red Head, it needs more castor than the available R/C fuels.  Randy Smith has a great write up fuel for stunt engines at the top of the page under Engine Set Up section.

I hope all is well, it has been a couple years, (maybe more!) since we last got together.  I seem to be getting stronger from the cancer treatments so I will need to get back out flying!

How much wingtip weight?  Whatever is necessary.

Wait, what should I make the wingtip weight, then?  Adjustable.

(Yes, I am picky.  But weight boxes are easy and fun).

Make the leadouts adjustable too, if it's not too late.

I have an OS Pet .099 on one and i it flies very well, without fuel it weighs 16 oz, and I fly it on .012 cables about 45' long, gonna make some longer lines.  (52') And try them, but I like the way it flies, keep us posted on yours, oh, the pet .099 likes a lot of castor.  22% castor and 5% syn...
