How do you fit your wings into fuselages?

G'day!

There are numerous ways of fitting wings into fuselages—both profile and built-up—and the different wing types. How do you do it when the wing has flaps and the flap horn is located with brass horn retainers/bearings?

I have to say that I am a bit reluctant to cut the bottom out of the fuselage like the ARC/ARF models are done and I have never seen a drawings of an I-beam wing that shows how it's done with the TE.

not many options once the control horns are in place - most people (as far as I know) do the cutout in the bottom of the fuse - it is the easiest way to ge it all in there and very simple to complete.

I-beam wings are built IN the fuse  - so the wing spar, LE, TE and controls are built before the ribs go on

I suppose you could cut straight back from the wing to make room for the horn, but I imagine most designers want to put a bulkhead right behind the TE, so you'd have to dodge that.

Put the loose horn rod in place in the airfoil opening on the fuse, slide in the wing then attach the flaps after to the rod and wing.

Cutting the bottom is the easiest and in my opinion the best way to do it. I use 1/32 ply doublers when I put the side pieces back in but that's probably overkill. Bob Hunt has a video that shows how he does it. He puts a couple formers in to hold the cut sides in alignment, pretty neat and if it's good enough for a world champ it's durn shure good enough for me.
