Title: Pocket hinges
Post by: Mike Quinn on November 04, 2020, 03:36:54 PM
Hi

Can anyone post details of how to make pocket hinges and also the pockets for where the flap horns fit.  Is it best to glue the horns in or just free fit so to speak?

Cheers

Mike

I will address the 2nd question - never glue the horns.  A lot of folks use a bass or plywood plug with a tight fit hole.  I use brass or aluminum tube glued in.

Several reasons.  If glued the alignment must be perfectly centered or they will bind.  Second is removal.  If you glue them you can't remove the flaps without breaking the joint.

Here are 2 of my build logs.  Go through them.  Lots and lots of good info.
