Title: Pictures of Modified Forerunner
Post by: Mike Griffin on February 03, 2008, 03:21:03 PM
After several months of work and a couple of suicidal thoughts (just kidding) the modified Forerunner is finished. All I need to do now is mount the tank, the .46 engine and finish the leadouts. Don't make fun of the white tailwheel, I am changing it. This is a modified version of Tom Farmer's Forerunner. The main change I made was the wing. It is built up instead of foam. I also increased the size of the tail feathers a little. The plane is covered in polyspan and the paint is Rustoleum. Hope you guys enjoy the pictures.

Mike, which .46 are you putting in it? It really looks nice. I always get off on the ol red white and blue.

Hi David,

I have a OS .46 LA I am going to put in it.  I have had real good luck with these engines and I hope it will work well in this bird.

Very nice indeed..! Question...Is the Rustoleum overpainted with a clear or a fuel-proofer? And which Rustoleum did you use..there are several varieties..

Once again..very nice..

Joe,

I used the Rustoleum enamel in the spray can right off of Lowe's shelf.  I used Rustoleum Crystal Clear enamel as the final coat to add the shine.

Have you used this process before?...Does the Rustoleum Clear do a good job of fuel-proofing?  I keep getting mixed reports on this...Will be good to hear if you have had good results from this....

Thx..joe

My experience with Rustaleum spray can paint is good. In itself it is fuel proof.

Very nice.  I don't see a problem with the tail wheel, myself.

Nice job,  If the tail wheel is rubber not foam, all you have to do is put it in a small cup of acetone and wipe it off.

Not feeling the wing mounted gear on a profile. Profiles tend to live hard lives,(late nights, hanging out in bars etc.) Fuselage mounted gear just tends to hold up better here.

Mike,
Did you use Rustoleum enamel on the open wing bays over the polyspan?  Any primer or clear dope underneath the Rusto?

Thanks.

You need to do something. As already stated - the clear is not fuelproof.

How long do you guys let the clear cure before flying?   I have so far had no problems with clear after it sits for a couple of weeks.  Now, even my two part auto clear has to sit for a week or two.   H^^
