Richards Kits Little Thunderbird
« on: February 05, 2011, 10:52:42 AM »
Not feeling like taking the car out of the garage and heating it up this weekend I decided to chance the rath of "Helga" and start a building project in the house. I dug out my Richards Kits Little Thunderbird and started in. When I bought this from Larry he also had a full size set of plans by Bob English along with the Veco kit plans which makes my building easier. I started using some Ambroid glue on the trailing edge and main spar doublers, not having used Ambroid in years I instantly figured out the smell I'd been missing since I came back to C/L. Fearing "Helga" I use it sparingly as to not upset the powers that be. I just ordered a Veco 19 from Mecoa which I hope I have better luck with than the last one. The plans also show the over and under lead outs so that will be a new one for me. Here's a few pics I'll show more as I progress.

HI Lee,

Great start.  Maybe Helga will let you have your fun, "in peace" (if she doesn't make you rest in peace! LOL!!)

Remember that the MECOA Veco 19 is the later BB version and that kit was designed around the plain bearing .19. Shouldn't be a problem, though!  The BB 19 has a great deal more power and weights a tad more, for balancing purposes.

Sounds like you have run the BB .19. (???)   10-4 APC, a slightly bigger tank than for the plain bearing, and ear muffs.......... y1

Bob English drew the plans and made two Lil' T-Birds...one pure classic, the other updated with a modern look. Both incredibly nice models, like all of Bob's stunters. 8)

Are Richards Kits still available? Seems their website is no longer. Anyone have their phone number?

Larry will probably come on line to answer personally but he announced awhile ago that he was retiring from the kit building business. 8)

Yep, he is selling the rights to his kit's productions.
