Carbon Fiber Pushrods
« on: February 04, 2015, 03:56:35 PM »
I am building a ME 109 from a RSM kit and have never built a CF pushrod. I saw a link last week, thought it was Aero Products, that had a lot of how to topics. Looked at the site and apparently wasn't it. Need to know how to build a pushrod. The kit has the materials, so at least I have that. I'm old school, 3/32" music wire. Need to get with the program. lol

Larry, I hope the picture and instructions are readable. I use these fittings but I believe the kit comes with grooved dowels and instead of drilling into the middle just put a groove on the outside so the wire and dowel will fit in the tube.

Elongate the hole you put in the C/F tube so you have about 1/4" adjustment, once you have it adjusted were you want epoxy  a round piece of toothpick in the hole so the bent up portion of the wire is set. I usually wrap the end with C/F tape and glue with c/a.

Thanks for the info. Found the Dave Brown ends, drilled for 4-40 rod and will be set.

If your going to bend the ends of the wire and solder for your connection to the horns,. what comes in the kit (3/32 wire ??) is good enough.

Larry,
I think you should check out the carbon fiber pushrods from Tom Morris hobbies on Stunt Hanger Hobbies (http://stunthanger.com/hobby/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=Carbon+pushrod&search_in_description=1&osCsid=1ffa45caaf62874b3aef4a2239ed1ef1&x=4&y=11). You can likely use the lighter 3/16" diameter CF rods. There are rod ends there also. Most CF ends are installed with JB Weld with a thread wrap around the outside.

Best,    DennisT

I used Morris controls on the Ringmaster 1000 and Ringmaster Bipe 1099.  Thought I would try building my own. I used the Dave Brown ends and the push rod material that was in the kit. Used slow curing epoxy and then wrapped with string and epoxy over that.
