Title: New project name a plane for me to build
Post by: RC Storick on February 11, 2007, 10:34:07 AM
I am all set to start building my next semi scale stunter. I will be filming this and making it for sale on CD. The unique thing about this CD set  is I am going to show from concept to finish of a Control line stunt plane. The problem I am having is I do not know what to build. So you decide. Put up your suggestion today and I start ASAP.

1st CD Concept and layout and kit cutting.
2nd CD component construction and tools.
3rd CD will be alignment and control install.
4th CD will be finish and finishing products I use.
The 5th and final will be flight testing and trim.

The  delivery times for Cd's will be as follows. It takes me about 3 months to do an airplane and I am adding the CD editing so we will say 4 months from start date. I will mail Cd's as they are finished or all at once. The cost of each CD will be $19.95 plus shipping or $100.00 for the set shipping included.

So please make a suggestion and post it here. This will not be a slab side airplane so fat fuse welcome!

To Order use PayPal donation button and specify your CD choice be sure to include your address.

A single wing fighter of WW2 vintage, or a Racer. This is a concept plane.

The idea you speak of, a Shoestring, fits the criteria.  Enough fuselage, when you get it that big, to hide the pipe, but the cheek cowls hiding the engine part is out.  Don't nkow about the front end and a pipe (inverted) engine. ???

I really like the looks of the Cosmic Wind series better, and there are three choices for paint schemes! ;D

WWII pick: Hellcat  I have not seen a full fuselage version done in the "60" size of one.

Bill: RSM kits Bob Whitley's Shoestring for a pipe and it has the cowl cheeks 58" 660 sq's.

Robert, I think the Hughes H-1 Racer would be a terrific plane to build a semi scale stunter. The moments are there. It is a famous and historically significant plane. And you'd be the first kid on the block to do it. Below is a link that will take you to a picture of it.

HI Ralph,

I have seen the F-4-F Wildcat and F-8-F Bearcat, but never a built up full blown piped F-6-F Hellcat! ;D

Would love to see one................

Build something else!  I really can't stand semi stunt scale ships.

Piped lawn darts forever!

Hello Robert,
the idea for such a project is amazing. A person asks other people what to build! I have so many ideas for future construction in my head that my life will not be long enough to make these ideas reality.
However the idea for such a project is fantastic. I will not make any suggestion because I would have to name at least a dozen of interesting designs. I think the decision for such a project shouldn’t be based on personal views about airplanes from several individuals.
What I mean: the decision shouldn’t be made by preference of looks from individuals. With such a project you have a great possibility to show people how an interesting  control line aerobatic airplane is designed and built. It’s a perfect means for learning.  I think we can presuppose that most people know how to build a Nobler or a similar standard design  ( if not then you would have to show how to build a Ringmaster. I don’t think that this is really your intention ).
An interesting project would be a design which has unusual shapes and requires different construction methods. That doesn’t mean that the design is extremely difficult to build ( for example: I would never dare to build Billy Werwage’s Thunderbolt. This would simply exceed my building skills and my patience ). But Al Rabe’s Bearcat might be a good choice. The look is different, construction requires some deviation from the norm, and it looks quite nice ( with your help I might even be tempted to build one !). Of course there are a lot of other suitable designs. Also I’m not sure whether I understood right: do you intend to design a new airplane, or do you build a known design?
I’m not suggesting the Bearcat design. I just want to suggest that  for such a project some other aspects should be considered , too.
By the way  -  on your intended CDs, will this be movies or photos ( still shots )?
Just my two cents.
Regards,  claus
