Trailing Edge from two pieces of sheeting
« on: May 06, 2010, 03:25:02 PM »
Hi Folks, How do you construct a trailing edge from two pieces of sheeting so that its straight ,strong and has no problems?  Do you place a  small 1/8" cap at the end of it and sand it to match the upper and lower sheeting? I can't see constructing a trailing edge like this for a wing that calls for flaps.  Thanks, Mike  ???

I've been known to build a sheet trailing edge as a separate structure, with little Shaped riblets and a 1/16 capstrip on the front.  It can be built straight and true on the bench and won't warp on you.  You may use little gussets on the ribs when you build the wing.

First of all what type of wing is it?  How about a picture to see beter what do you have so far?

When building combat wings this was typical construction; we cut styrofoam wedges about 1" long to go between the 2 TE pieces, at the center of each bay. Glued them in with white glue. Kept the TE from collapsing, or overzealous launchers from crushing it.
