Gee Bee Ymodel in repairs
« on: July 14, 2007, 05:24:52 PM »
Well as documented of late, I managed to initiate my Gee Bee in Puyallup. I have begun repairs so thought I would post some updates for those who commented on liking the plane in my other post. Just a quick refresher, its a brodak P-40 profile wing that I had with my own design wrapped around the wing. She flew awesome until the dreaded outside squares. no damage to anything forward of the flaps except a scuff on the nose and one on the wing tip. so I am rebuilding her, we have the technology, she will be stronger faster, able to ,,,,,, um sorry got off on a tangent there  #^ #^
any way, a couple picts, in the process I am reengineering one noted weekness in the fuse layout.
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

I just wish Mark lived closer. He's a great guy. And the GeeBee looks pretty good too.

Randy, your gonna make me blush,, thanks seriously,, and I wished I lived closer too, if it were half the distance, I would make weekend advetures out of it. I would love to watch you build.....
anyway, to cut to the chase, heres where the Gee Bee is now. got the new aft fuse grafted on. wht a pain in the ,, working around the wing and all, the splice of course was right in the range of where the splice was so sanding was a pain,, ah well, alls well that ends well. she is straight, and stronger than before. I skinned under the stringers on thefuse with 1/16 and then did 1/16 stringers instead of the 1/8 stringers I had before without the skin. It is REALLy torsional resistant compared to before even after I had silkspaned it. Looks good so far. more picts later. now its on to the control surfaces!

Ty, with my track record lately, everything I do is monokote totally ( um ok so I painted the fuse on the vector.) in the original post on this I noted that the fuse was a little bit to twisty for my tastes so I silkspanned it first then monokoted it. all the trim is Ultracote over the Monokote. It flew so dang nice I couldnt just let it sit, so hence the rebuild. It didnt hurt the wing or front half of the fuse aside from some minor scrapes.

Mark,

You do very good Monokote work. Better than me. The appearance on the GeeBee was very good.
