Monokote Trim Solvent Still Available?
« on: September 02, 2021, 01:20:01 PM »
Is Monokote trim solvent still available?

I did a search on Stunt Hanger.  Didn't find an answer.

I did a search on Tower Hobbies and didn't find it there.

If there is a Tower Hobbies still, you may call them and see what's up. As an alternative, you may try thinning SIG Stix-It or Coverite's Balsaright priducts and brushing that under any loose edges you are trying to stick down.

I found one in stock at this hobby shop.  http://www.flyhobbies.com/index.php     On RC Groups forum  https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2897500-TF-Monokote-Trim-Solvent , there is a lot of info, also on RCU forum  https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/kit-building-121/318095-what-monokote-trim-solvent.html , is more info.  I think acetone is the main ingredient in the product.  Pure acetone evaporates much faster than the trim solvent though.  Experimentation would be warranted.  Maybe original type nail polish or maybe the new stuff they are selling now.  I wish you success.

Thanks, Joe.

I had seen the RC group links, but I hadn't heard about that hobby shop.

Thanks,
Joe Ed

Just as an aside idea, try to locate some actual instruction sheets for Monokote and read them. I recall reading on those or somewhere else, maybe, that when applying Monokote as a trim or as lettering, mix up some water and dish washing detergent and spray a mist of it on the location you want the pieces at. Peel off the backing sheet after cutting out, and lay in place. Work out the bubbles and such and slide into position. Let this all dry and after several hours, you will find that it is all stuck down. The detergent activates the adhesive, and you can go over everything with an iron at a slightly lower heat and really seal things down. This is great for thin, narrow and pointy trim. I haven't done this in a while so don't know how it works with the newer Monokote  but worth a try.
