Probably because he's building an actual Stunt model, using accepted practices....and will eventually complete it and fly it.

What a novel concept, huh?

Come on guys, let's be nice before the administrator gets upset.   Marcus is doing a gret job on the build from pictures he has posted.  I tried my own version of the Bobby Hunt's lost foam wing a few years back.   This was after watching his video several times.  My problem is finding vergin foam locally and I can't afford or have space like what Bobby gets.  Have done wings using the Tom Morris setup and uing the jig from CLC also.   They all work great when you follow instructions and have patience.

Hi Marcus:

It looks as if you've shear webbed the back edge of the trailing edge. The TE cap will support that area; where you want the shear webs is at the front edge of the trailing edge opening between the two TE pieces...

Bob,

While your here,

Do you rip the (all the pieces) for the whole length of that webbing? The distance should be the same all the way tip to tip.

If not, a constant width piece could correct differences.

Am I thinking correctly?

Hi Charles:

I custom fit each piece. I use a vernier to measure the gap and then transfer that to a piece of wood in a fixture that I made and slice the individual shear webs to size.

The photos should tell the story...

Notice also, as on Bob's, the grain on the shear webs should be vertical.

Guys

I did the shears vertically on the frnt part of the back sheeting.
What you saw inthe pic I got from Doug Moon's build thread, thought was a good thing to do...

Check the pics again

I stand corrected, Marcus. But, you need to shear web those small spaces between the ribs as well!

I don't see the need for the aft shear web piece,s since the TE cap will do the same thing even better... y1

I'll install the BC and Leadouts later.
I'm going to work on the roght wing tip and weigh box, then I'll do the left tip, so I can carve any necessary ribs for the leaadouts to move freely.
I have to say that I think running the front leadout through the ribs where here's the shearwebs might be very fun... n~

Good you asked...

Will be back at the wing this week, had been working on a combat model for a break.
Sometimes I like to study what I will do next, so I have a to-do list and don't get lost.
And needed to find a replacement for the basswood tension and compression relieve, got cedar...
And though it's not the wing, done some work on the fuselage.
As soon as I finish the wing, I'll start a thread on the building of this Thundergazer.
It's got to be airborne ASAP...

Now that I'm getting close to finishing this wing, I can honestly say that the lost foam jig is a great way to build a straight wing.
With a little effort, one can achieve great result, even when you have never done it, like myself.
I know a lot of little things that I can do better for the next one, but am very happy with the result I got so far.
A couple more days...

Thanks John!
Since I decided to start flying in contests, I chose the ThunderGazer as the ship for that.
In Brasil we fly FAI rules, and when the TG was designed for that... VD~
To get a really good one, I should build some, and 3 are planned, one after the other.
This first one will have one Enya 61 RE, and the other two will be eletric.
I was going to make this one eletric, but I know I have to learn more about it before attempting such a move. S?P

I had to attend some events and was practicing for some contests, but will be back at it by the end of this week.
Then, will stop only when it's finished.
By the way, I got the Enya 61 CXLS to haul this bird...
Will have some new pics soon enough.

Yeah, we keep forgetting they are now getting into their winter time.   Hope he did well in his contests.

Fall started today at around 8:22am, local time.
It was 3 events, one after the other, 2 contests and a meeting.
First contest I sucked and the wind sucked even more...
The meeting was a lot of fun.
The second contest, got 3rd place, a medal and lots of new friends.
Charles, the Enya 61 CXLS weights 339 gr, a little over 11oz if my calculation is not wrong.
I'm going to use Randy's header and pipe.
I'm not the expert, but I don't think this engine is that heavy, considering the excellent power output you get.

This is my friend and "sponsor" Martin doing his thing at Copa Brasil last year.
Thundergazer+Enya 61

Doc, Fall/Winter is actually better than Summer, it doesn't rain very often, the wind is calm and we don't cook under the sun.
I needed to get the engine and some hardware to continue.
It seems I got almost all, only missing 2 sheets of 1/4X4 and will be good to go, but next move is tension/compression relieve and bellcrank/leadouts + center sheeting.

Just curious how you guys bend your horns, since I'll have to do it too.
Any suggestions??

Marcus,

That's not the Enya engines I remember. The ones I'm farmiliar with have a removable front case as the rear backplate, four bolts.

Made for CL?

Looks like a great engine with a light case.

Will resume building today, the wing I mean.
But haven't been slacking, got the engine mounts done, bent the flap horn the old way, soldered the BC retainers.

Marcus,

Where did you get the two aluminim mounts. They are tapered. You made them?

That's the universal mounts Brodak sells.
I had to grind a little to give it the right shape.
I like this kind of mount 'cause it's way easy to change motors...

Wing joiners Ok...
I'll have this wing finished soon.
Next is the center sheeting, easy, then gluing everything while installing the BC.
