This is really getting ridiculous. My suggestion is to not post to his threads and so, he can only delete his own posts.

Randy,
my thread commenting about this same thing disapeared as well, I think SParky or one of the other moderators decided that my thread was ,, well un needed,, or something,,

you wanna bet whether yours goes the same way soon? we could start a pool,, winner takes all,,

Whats the point in starting a thread, asking technical questions and getting good answers and then deleting it? Maybe not all the answers are something you might like but most of the information could have been useful to someone. I think we all have been beat-up a time or 2 on these forums for asking something or not wording it quite right. I remember my question on a Ro-Jett 40 one time didn't turn out quite as I anticipated.

I didn't even know that one could delete a thread once they started it.

I kinda figure that once I start a thread, it's public property.  If I want to retain ownership of something I write, I'll post it on my web page or try to get it published.

Hi Tim,

Only one of the moderators/owner can delete whole threads.  Anyone can remove their own post.  I do not know who deleted the thread............  I am afraid that those members wanting to police the situation on their own only adding to the problem.  I do not know what the outcome will be yet.

Look guys. I don't want to start a flame war. I was just getting a bit frustrated in putting out effort to give information only to have the thread deleted because someone decided to take offense. I suppose I could just lurk and never post anything else, but that seems kind of self defeating.

I can't believe someone would delete their own posts. I see questions on here all the time that I should have asked, but hadn't thought about. Locally I can get pretty good advice as far as engine and airframe basics. When it comes to C/L stunt, I ask the experts here. I'm sure some of you might not consider yourselves  "experts", but there are 100s of years of knowledge in all aspects of stunt. Finishing, engine tuning, airframe trimming the list goes on and on.
So here is my 2 cents; If you're going to post and then delete because you didn't get the answer you were expecting, you should leave the Adult table and go sit with the kiddies.

You people are ASSUMING that he deleted his own post.  Maybe someone should actually find out BEFORE making accusations.  Instead you all just run your mouths and hurt others.  Good for you.  Loosers.

Glenn,

He has stated he has done this and I didn't accuse anyone. I just said that it was interesting that it disappeared, particularly right after he said as much. I don't know at all. Just find it interesting. And my comment was if you are concerned about him doing that, don't post to his threads then you're posts won't be deleted. But whatever.

HE is the one who kept going on about deleting his posts,, and threads,, we did not make this up,, it came from him,, so, lets all play nice and maybe none of us will get booted off here

I think that if you are the thread originator, then if you delete that first post, all the responses to it will be deleted.  It is like that on other forums I belong to and one I moderate for.

The problem with deleting replies is that it absolves much of the responsibility that should initially be in place.

The fact that an 'undo' function exists will allow poorly thought through replies to flourish and leads to thinking like  "Ow well that made no sense but who cares as I can erase anything I wish."

Leaving everything in place becomes a leveler, and as such if someones goofs up, they tend to admit it and become the bigger man then move on.

I strongly advocate only the Mods having delete powers for the above reason.

he sure is - however - none of this rubbish was happening prior to this particular person joining - I could care less - but it seems to get other peoples hackles up pretty quick

Glenn,

No problem. And as much as some really get upset about this, it's really kind of overblown in my opinion. The easy answer is, if you don't like what the guy is doing, don't respond to him. Yes, he may post things that are untrue, but really, most of the folks on this forum are bright enough to figure out what to listen to and what to ignore. The more you feed him, the more he will do this.

Hi Chris,

AFAIK, only moderators can delete entire threads.  I do not know who deleted the thread, but, again, I do not believe Charles could delete the entire thread.  Can you delete a thread?  Same-same.

I know from experience that a post can be deleted within a certain time frame as well as modifying them.  If you wait too long then it is the administrator that had to do it, if he didn't do it already and the PM you to tell you why.   H^^

Hey Bill,
the point was that he IS a Moderator but does ones powers extend outside of their own area?

It would seem that the answer is a big fat 'no.' :)

And, I agree mate - this is getting tiring.

Cheers.

As I pointed out and then deleted myself, if you are original poster of a thread, then yes you can delete the ENTIRE thread yourself. That includes everyone's posts on your thread. If you don't believe it try it yourself.

Apparently due to the behavior of some this option has now been removed so if you post something and it turns out not to be something you like you are just going to have to live with it.

I just went and looked at the Judging Clinic Forum, and it looks like (for now!) that I can still delete anybody's post. The odd thing, is that I'm not seeing any moderator for this particular forum. I thought Randy Powell was one, but maybe only the finishing forum? There are more important things to be concerned about, like new smiley face icons to bug Da' Dirt with.  (PE**) Steve

PS: There is no way for me to delete anybody's post in any other forum than the Judging Clinic Forum. I have had the urge a few times...
