Forerunner with Millenium wing
« on: March 11, 2019, 04:01:40 PM »
Thought I would post a few pictures of the Build of the Forerunner with a Millenium Wing.  This is the Jig I built to slice the proper airfoil rib slices.

Hi Gil,

I will post pictures as I go along.  I am trying to finish up the test build on the Squaw kit and work a little on the Forerunner at the same time.  I have some pictures that Tom Morris sent me that might help and I will send you an e mail with some of the pictures that might help.  I need your e mail address and if you don't want to post it here, send me a private message.

I finally found plans through Steve Moon.  That gave me the root chord and airfoil and that is all you need to build a Millennium wing.

Here is a mock up of the leading and trailing edge showing how the rib sits on them.  Of course there is a slotted spar that the ribs sit down in and it is not shown in these first few pictures..  I will start building the spar soon and show it in pictures as well.  This may bore the heck out of those who build Millennium wings but this pictorial building thread will be for those who have never built one.

:) Mike why the millennium wing and not an I beam? I would go on step farther yet. Use a 3/16 balsa sheet for spar. the spar will get notches for the ribs to slide in. Instead of a true I beam use flat carbon strips glued on the flat surface of the 3/16 balsa sheet. That will make for a super nice wing that is stiff and light.

Mike,

Is there a reason why the Leading edge is so much wider than the rib at the front? - is it because of the JIG?  just wondering

Heeey, Mikey, are there any updates on the M/ wing construction?  Inquiring minds want to know...

Hello Mike,

I build Millennium wings and this is
definitely not boring.
These are very good wings  that are
light and easy once the jig is made.

Talking to other guys, full sheeting
seems to be the current direction
since it makes the wing easier to
finish .

The devil is in the details, so I'll
be interested in how you solve some
minor issues I have with this technique.

Cheers! - K.

Just a note to let everyone know that I have not abandoned the Millennium wing build, I have just had a lot of things come up recently and I had to put in on the back burner for a while.  Hope to get back at it soon.
