Roger,
The Pacer "Hinge Glue" is not a repackaging and relabeling of another glue, but one that has qualities that make it an excellent choice for plastic type hinges.
My first criteria for a hinge glue was that it had to be water soluble. Epoxy is just too messy when you are installing a flap with 5-6 hinges. In order to minimize oil infiltration into the hinge pocket, I want to fill the slot to the point that some glue is forced out, hopefully sealing the area around the hinge completely. Then the excess can easily be cleaned with a cue-tip and water.
Five alphatic resins or white glue types were tried on actual DuBro hinges. There was no preparation done to the hinge surfaces. In an actual installation, one would want to wipe them off with a good solvent, and roughen the surface with coarse sandpaper to maximize the adhesion.
The glues tried were:
1) Pacer Hinge Glue (looks the same as Titebond, but results are much different)
2) WeldBond
3) TiteBond
4) F-560 canopy glue
5) Pica Gluit
Hinges were glued to a piece of balsa with the numbered glues, and after thorough drying, the hinges were pulled till they separated from the balsa.
Conclusions:
The Pacer Hinge Glue bond was so good that it removed 100% of the balsa in the contact area. Also, the F-560 Canopy glue had an equivalent result. The other three glues were unacceptable in their bond to the DuBro hinge material.
Cheers.
