Title: Hand Held CNC Router
Post by: CircuitFlyer on September 02, 2016, 04:48:47 PM
Check this out - https://shapertools.com/

Sounds like it has potential.  A bit pricey but it could be very useful for other projects around the house.

Seeing that Festool is one of their partners, I wonder if these will show up at Lee Valley.

There's a router attachment that's fits the Dremel tool made by Dremel.

I have one but haven't used it in years.

We used them for cutting openings for gear blocks and for making wheel wells for retracts in foam wings.

They pop up now and again on ebay.

re: the Dremel router base, I use one for my inlay work in the guitar shop, but it has zero relatiuonship to this thing here!  (I also built my own base for the Dremel.)
I may spring for this cnc unit for the shop to use in making filler blocks for pickup cavities, etc!  what a help it looks to be.  Thanks so much for posting this.  As soon as my new 30 X 40 shop is up and going, this is going to get a very close look first hand.

Handheld and CNC? Hmmm....

That's what I thought, but watch the video. The operator just keeps the thing close to the path, and the limited-travel actuators do the fine adjustment.  I'd guess the hard part is knowing where the path is.

It appeared to me that the path was shown down on the subject as a line of light the router had programmed in.
That's something I intend to watch live in a couple of months.  On another note, the walls are up on my 30 X 40!!!!!!

I see faster inlay work on larger pieces in my future!
