Title: Half ribs
Post by: Fred Quedenfeld jr on February 05, 2016, 03:13:38 PM
How do you install the half ribs like in the Hobo or fzed twister?
I tried to pin to the bottom spare but they split
do you install both spars ans leading edge than twist the half ribs inplace?
thanks

That is in fact pretty much how I have done it, built the wing with the full ribs,, then rotate the half ribs in place, a drop of CA in three places finishes the deal

I've made half-ribs as individual pieces (top & bottom, but both the same, being a symmetrical aerofoil). Uses less balsa, you can use the frags from cutting the full ribs, and comes out lighter. If you wanted to, you could make them with a bit excess on the outer surface and sand them flush with a long sanding board...with a chord-wise motion.  y1 Steve

I used the same ply templates that I used for the regular ribs.  Yes you put them in after main wing is framed up.   Not that hard and I didn't break any ribs.

What Mark said.  If the ribs are cut reasonably accurately then you just rotate them into place and glue with your favorite.
