Title: FILLETS RE-DONE
Post by: Greg L Bahrman on June 23, 2006, 11:40:02 PM
I got the fillets in on the wing. I'll wait a day or two and then sand them when there good and hard. Shouldn't take to long as the temperature here has been in the 90's. Warmer weather tends to speed up the curing process. I taped off the area and used a Popsicle stick to form the fillets. It already had the small radius I was looking for. The straight part is a piece of cake but I always have a tough time going around the leading edge of the wing and keeping it uniform.

The trick is to use a ball bearing or marble. Something like a popsicle stick will leave a thinner or thicker fillet depending on the angle it's held. A round ball stays uniform.

Thanks Bob Reeves I'll give it a try.

I went back and re-did the fillets where they go around the leading edge of the wing. I used a marble CA'd to a stick so I would have something to hold onto. They came out really sweet. Thanks Bob.
I found that it's not a good idea to use the marble when you have a bunch of material to push around, but if you use the marble after you've done 90 percent of the shaping it works really nice. Thanks again!!!.  SWEET, SWEET, SWEET

Fillet shown is Aero Poxy Lite........But Some of us like to use Super Fil......I like them both but if you took a vote I think Super Fil would get the edge and it sands a little easier....... Grins

y1  I agree, Greg.  The Super Fil sands easier and, in my experience, is not as critical to mixing ratios as the Aero Poxy Lite.  I have had some that kicked REAL fast and some that took 48 hrs. to harden.  Mix it the same (as close as I can!) each time.

I'm one of the crazies.......... I still use 5 min. epoxy and Micro Ballons sometimes! LL~
(but I have not bought any Sig Epoxilite in years)
