hello, new to the hanger, been reading for a while. seems to be a wealth of knowledge here, so here goes. bought a mustang on ebay, partially built. all looks very good, but the engine mount has been drilled w/ blind nuts installed. measurements are, front bolt 1" back from outside of nose ring. 5/8ths center to center and 1 1/2" across. any ideas what may fit, or any why to relocate? the nose is pretty much done, well, almost the whole plane is complete. built per kit except for a 3/16th cf tube thru bellcrank platform and wing sheeting. thanks

Just did a quick measure and it looks like it's drilled for a Fox 35. As long as the planes weight is kept in line it should be ok, but you might consider one of the reworked Fox 35's with a bit more power.

H^^ Also might want to check the Evo 36 for a fit. Somewhere I read that it and the Fox are real close. I know that it and the OS 32 will interchange. D>K

The Evolution bolt pattern is identical to the Fox. However, the Evo prop driver is about 5/8" farther out than is the Fox.

thanks guys for the info. Had a feeling that may be the case. where might one find a reworked fox? have a 25la I wanted to try, guess I'll use it on a CG cosmic wind thats next to build. again thanks.

You could also use a Double Star 40 , I believe they are a direct drop in for the Fox 35 .

The best Foxes come from Larry Foster, Randy Smith and Lew Woolard. Each has its adherents; all are good.

I know that if it were my airplane AND an Evo .36 would fit I'd use it over a $100.00 plus modded Fox and make up the 5/8 inch in the with a 2 cent piece of balsa. Before I get any hate mail, I'm a Fox guy, just think that this plane would be better with a more powerful engine. As they say, Sig Mustangs may be small but at least they're heavy! LL~

Like the idea of making up the 5/8th with balsa, never evan accured to me. I've seen soom threads on the evo, where are those available from?

I installed a Brodak 40 in mine but have yet to fly it. It's very close now.

What is weight of your SIG mustang? Did you core out the foam wing or using solid? Did you use the vacuum formed pastic turtle deck ? I think it would save considerable weight to core the wings and make balsa turtle either hollowed out block or molded on a form.

Not sure of weight yet. did'nt core wings and am deciding about the turtle deck. kinda wanted to go with the whole kit thing, stock style, as I have another fresh kit to try and do right. This is going to be the test bed so to speak

the Sig Mustang is about 500 sq in.... A Silver Foxx 35 or equivalent is quite adequate power IF the plane is approximately 40 oz or less. Also, it is easier to balance. Using other engines, as suggested, starts to add quite a bit of extra nose weight, leading to more weight in the tail to balance. vicious circle. Don't get me wrong, more power is very good!!! But the Fox is a rather light 35, and that is what that airplane was designed for....
Just a thought. And, yes, my son and I have done a few of them.....
I would suggest stretching the tail a tad on your next one.... Also, toss all the plastic except the cowl and canopy!!!

If I HAD to have a SIG Mustang, I'd probably stick a Brodak .40 in it. Light engine, light mufflers available, lots of power for a model that size. y1 Most the other engines suggested (EVO, Magnum, etc.) are just too heavy n1 ... unless it happens to have oak tail surfaces. The RM-40 would also be good, but a lot more $. :! Steve

I have had two of the Sig Mustangs in the past. The first one met it demise when the bellcrank mount pulled loose. It was installed per plans. The second one was modified with what is now called a hanging bellcrank. Ply plates top and bottem of wing. Both flew with box stock Fox 35 Stunts. Both were in the mid 40 ounce range. Did not core wing on either of them and used the plastic that came with the kit. Have fun, DOC Holliday
