Title: Engine bearers/fuse doublers
Post by: Jim Roselle on August 17, 2015, 09:29:16 AM
Hello all,

I am starting the build of my Brodak F-51 Mustang profile today. I have always used epoxy for the engine bearers any ply doublers. I have heard epoxy can add unnecessary weight. What are other people using? Power will be a Fox .35

Thanks,

Jim

Never sacrifice strength for weight.  Use just enough epoxy to do the job as you want the power to stay with the plane. D>K

John is right and I'd stick with epoxy for that.  You can scrape it thin then weight it down on a flat surface to cure.  Don't use anything that need air to dry- it won't.  I recall a Ringmaster built as a kid that needed new motor mounts after a few years of oil soaking.  We peeled off the ply doublers to find the Ambroid cement was still wet except right around the edges.
