Covering with Icarex.
« on: Yesterday at 10:51:02 AM »
Hi.
Every time I cover my FF wings with Icarex (Or actually the better Japanese product that everybody calls Icarex), I can’t help wondering why it’s not used in stunt planes, too. I think it would be great.
Polyspan was a small revolution in free flight about 20 years ago and was abandoned well before it found it’s way to CL.
It’s really easy to use, shrinks well, and quite bulletproof.
I use diluted contact cement to glue it to the carbon structures (3x 1:1 thinned coats and when dry, attach & shrink with hot iron), maybe some experiments are needed to make it stick well to balsa.
I would use it in same way as in the pictures; just on the open areas. D-box and the rest with thin paper, carbon veil, glass cloth or whatever you prefer.
Just a thought.
