Hi guys, I'm just curious, how many builders take the short pin out of the hinges and install a continuous music wire through the hinges? Don't know why I do it, I just like the looks better also I can remove flap and install a different flap. After many years of use I have had some hinges break. Just another one of them dumb questions. Have a great day and keep them in the air, Gary.

I don't do the continuos pin thing but thought right away of the Sig "Brand X" hinges I use - you may want to look at those as I believe the barrels are a bit thicker than the Dubro. (And they come with the pins not installed. You install them yourself.)

Gary - I'd suggest that removable hinge pins are not the best way to go, because you widen the gap considerably. You'll still have to seal the gap with tape, but the wider gap increases the chance for the tape to get too far down into the gap and foul the hinge barrels with mastic. If the tape sticks to the hinges, increased control 'stickiness' results. So my first choice is to either go with over and under cloth hinges. About an ounce lighter than nylon, and if you run them tip to tip, self sealing. If you use barrel hinges, the trim colors are easier to paint across the gap. Try cutting inlays into the trailing surface to minimize the gap and bury the hinge inside the movable surface to avoid tape fouling. I pull the hinge pins and substitute sewing pins at least 5 thou thinner than the stock pins, with the end bent over and stuck into the fixed surface alongside the hinge body Prevents misalignment from binding up the controls. Hi Tom, thank you for your input. I bury the continuous pin in the trail edge and there is no gap. It just seem to help keep everything aligned. I have used the sig hinges and they work great. I like the x'ed out part. Monokote hinges works great also. Have a great day and thank you, Gary
