Wet sand, recoat the base color, and try again! ;D

Are you using an airbrush?  What was the "trouble" you experienced?

Whew, I'm back
Was that a long hot summer or what?

Yellow will work better and look it's Best when sprayed or brushed over white or light grey primer. Nothing more than 50% thinner when mixing. The darker primers will give you a richer yellow tint.

I've read you have to buff the Monocote with steel wool to get the paint to adhere well, never tried it myself.  My suggestion: Get some yellow Monocote and cut the piece out, stick it in place.  Forget the paint.

Like MM, I would use yellow monocoat.  I have never had good luck painting over monocoat.
