Hi,
I came across a bunch of the same, antique dopes.
I clean with the left, and thin with the right.
Left is from Lowe's, right is from Walmart.

Be careful when using these two brands. You will have comparability problems with them. OIf you start with one brand, finish with one brand. I believe the way ot went was you can put other dope over Aerogloss, but you can't put Aerogloss over any other kind of dope. It may have held true if you used Aerogloss thinner. It changed formulas several times over the years and I had heard at one time that it was comprised of 14 different solvents! Apply to a test piece before trying on a model. Allow maximum gas off time between coats.

Didn't you use Dupont 3608S for Sig dope, or was that just for the MILSPEC stuff?

A hundred years ago, in my beginner days, I used to use Aerogloss and it would lift off of the fillets every time. I think it was mainly because it shrank so much, it would lift and you'd end up with a big hollow bubble inside about any tight corner. It does act a lot different than "normal" dope. These days I'd say it would be wise to just toss it in the round file.

I will refrain from my usual rant about using compatible materials. I've found over the years that people don't really want to hear that they cheap thinner they both from Joe's Hardware probably will cause problems with the Brodak dope they have.

The guys in British Columbia and Alberta report that the lacquer thinner they buy at Home Depot works fine in Brodak/Randolph butyrate dope. Apparently, it's different than what Home Depot sells here in the USA. Next trip to BC, I plan to find a Home Depot and smuggle a gallon across the border. It should say what's in it, and I can compare that to the stuff they stock here.  ;D Steve

PS: Take the lids off the AeroGloss and let it dry out completely. Dispose of in the garbage. Yes, that's the legal method of disposal for all household paints.

 I'll second that suggestion.  ;D
