Did I mess the doubler up on the Vector?
« on: March 31, 2011, 07:17:10 PM »
I glued down the doublers last night and did not notice this when I glued it down. Side of fuse was on the bottom.

I have too much wood in the wing slot. I now will have to cut it out, but my question is should I let that extra wood from the doubler stick out the nose?

yep - you will end up shaping the nose to fit a 1 3/4" spinner - which will mean you sand through the fuse side close to the spinner ring anyway - you will even go through part of the veil - but it is all good......

just a tip (seeing as I have built a few vectors) leave the doubler and veil sticking out on the wing cutout until you are ready to install the wing - typically in the Brodak kits - the wing cutout in the fuse sides is a little on the big side to hold the wing snug.  - but the laser cut doubler is pretty close - If you leave the doubler sticking out - you can just trim it to fit the wing neatly and either flood the joint with epoxy (to fill the gap) that is the heavier option - or glue scrap balsa in the gap to fill in to the fuse side

then fillet etc per usual.

if you have a quick look at the plan view of the fuse - you can see the doubler extending past the nose - the "infill block" goes in between the doubler - not the fuse sides

Thanks Wynn... I tried to line it up on the plans and it looked like the nose the end of the fuse and doubler are lined up.

Sure wish you would put something up on youtube on your next Vector. <=

yeah the first one that I built in 03/04 I had that moment of confusion......but got it sorted luckily. if yoiu look at the plan - the top view of the fuse shows the doubler extending out - I'll do a cut and paste in a second....

youtube of what? the build?

Yes a youtube of your next Vector build. <=

Yea I saw that on the plans and it is not real clear in the instructions. So I guess I am missing some doubler on the nose.

OK, maybe I fixed it.
I added about 1/4 inch to the nose and cut the doubler over hang out of the wing cut out. I did leave a little per Wynn to make sure I get a tight fit.
I feel better now.
Only thing is the cowl tabs are off 1/4 inch.

Just ordered a spinner from Brodaks today. Next my first engine crutch.
