Title: Compressor. With built-in theft deterrence
Post by: Tim Wescott on June 12, 2019, 10:20:39 PM
I got my compressor back on line!  It needed a new tank.  I definitely put too much work into it -- but I can squirt paint on planes again!

Tim,

If you want some more built in theft deterrence on that baby, just connect a lanyard (say some .027" stainless cable) to the safety valve. Connect the other end to the footing or foundation of your shop to keep it out of the way. If someone tries to wheel it away, it yanks the lanyard and the whole tank blows down. Very loud. Hard to run fast when you just crapped your pants.

Nah, FrankenCompressor is ugly enough that no one will steal it.  I'm safe.

You hope.  I have had junk, I mean really junk taken from my place.

But, I still remember a neighbor who tried to sell his washer and dryer.  Set it by the curb with a for free sign.  2 days later he put a for sale sign and it was gone the next day. D>K

Pretty hard to make off with a heavy compressor, unless a pickup truck and an accomplice is involved.  In that case, you can hear them coming.
