Title: Cockpit detail
Post by: James Mills on July 08, 2008, 10:32:58 PM
I guess I got a head of myself on my new plane and have the top block finished to the point of a coat of filler brushed on.  If I decide to add cockpit detail do I have to use dope for the colors or can I use a different type of paint (usually I do this before I get to this point)?

James,
I have had great luck using Acrylic craft type paints. Pat Johnston turned me on to this. they have a nice flat finish for cockpit work. I have also used Gesso as a quick fill for the balsa in the cockpit area, (its a surface preperation media for Acrylic painting on canvas or other surfaces.) Though Pat just paints the detail areas a couple coats and calls it good.
