CLOSE UP look at Paul Walker's beautiful IMPACTl
« on: March 25, 2008, 01:18:33 PM »
Last Sat. was the first time that I had a chance to really get an UP CLOSE and personal look over that beautiful IMPACT of Paul's.

What truly impressed me the most...was that Paul has utilized and built into this model, so many adjustable items that  allow him to "tweak-n-tune"  this model at a moments notice, allowing him the advantages to make those changes to his model in almost virtually a moments notice.

So many stunt flyers..(myself included) don't take enough time to utilize many of these items that we have built in to our stunters. Even my old decaying Super Chip from 1976 has a threaded outboard wing tip box, made from an old Boeing Ball point pen casing that I could add or retract weight to off-set the weight changes in flying lines, adjustable leadouts...etc.
Sadly...most of us JUST LEARN TO LIVE WITH HOW OUR STUNTERS FLY...AND SIMPLY LEARN TO FLY THAT OUT OF ADJUSTED SET UP ON   THAT  MODEL THAT COULD BE IMPROVED EVER SO MUCH JUST BY CAREFUL TWEAKING WITH A GOAL OR PLAN IN MIND.

But Paul has not only all these features....including removeable and adjustable flaps, elevators, and a removable aft rudder fin that in which he can make changes to the control systems elevator throw rate with that ball-link (shown in the attached photo.)

Throw in that all important added benefit,  that allows him the ability to remove the wing panels, landing gears  etc. Bottom line: Naturally which makes this one amazing travel friendly model that can break down into parts for shipping any where in the world.

NOW IF HE COULD JUST FIND A COST EFFECTIVE WAY TO SHIP THOSE BATTERIES FOR HIS NEW ELECTRIC POWERED MODELS ACROSS THE WORLD?
If I understand Paul's shipping problem with his Electrics..to travel or ship his batteries it could run over $500.00 OR MORE?
Again Bottom line: Perhaps this is why we see Paul Walker back to practing and flying with this beautiful  GASSIE' POWERED IMPACT!
PLUS....After seeing Paul flying skills in action last Sat. at The new SKYRAIDERS  Narrows Airport flying site......
THIS IMPACT...if used in competiton this year...will no doubt will continue to take home lots of winning hardware to add to its already amazing history.

Check out Paul's cool PVC adjustable travelin flight stand....
Also get a load of that SUPER LITE WEIGHT HANDLE in Paul hand.

Any serious stunt flyer knows this all ready and is a NO BRAINER BUT......BUT THE COLD HARD FACT IS THAT  I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THE MAJORITY OF ALL FLYING HANDLES ARE WAAAAAAAAAY TOO HEAVY and because of this weight...

The flyer is ROBBED AND HANDICAPPED OF THE ALL IMPORTANT ABLILITY TO  FEEL WHAT IS GOING ON....FROM THE STUNT MODEL OUT ON THE END OF THE LINES!
Whether we realize it or not....SO MUCH CAN BE LEARNED BY GETTING IN TOUCH WITH HOW THAT STUNT MODEL "FEELS!"
Which brings to mind...so many flyers spend too much time watching what their model is doing and need to be REMINDED that WATCHING WHAT THOSE LINES ARE DOING...can equally telegraph another overlooked visual that can give the pilot added input and information about what that model is trying to do waaaaaaaaaaay out there 60 or 70 feet away.

Is that an I-beam wing?

ash,

Sort of. As I recall, it's a sort of modified I-Beam lay out, but don't hold me to that. Paul will have to step in with details. I just remember him taling about it when it was new.

This looks to be the "Spanish" Impact. Longer wing, for the expected hot temps and thin air. I first saw it at the NW CL Regionals in '06, and PW won against excellent competition.

Surprising to me that fuel is easier to transport than Li-Po batteries.  HB~> Steve

With all the airline personal as well as military, its looks like somethings could be transported to a local base/airfield.  DOC Holliday
