RingStreakster rebuild question
« on: October 16, 2015, 05:16:37 PM »
Doing about 97% of a loop Sunday I pancaked the Sterling Flite RingStreakster and the engine bearers broke out.
No other damage so I'm repairing it.
The original bearers are only ~2 1/8" long; the original ply doublers extend only ~1" past the wing LE.
Countless numbers of Ringmasters seem to manage well enough with that, so I'm wondering:
Is it worthwhile to install longer bearers and doublers or KISS it and trust Matt's design skills?
I see the Outerzone plan shows longer bearers and a bit longer doublers.

Terry

DISCLAIMER -
This fuselage was given to me years ago and I don't know it's history, nor am I familiar with the original Kania design.
There are clues to indicate earlier surgery to the nose and it may be that short bearers were grafted in in the past.
If you've built an original, please help settle the question.

Thanks.

I would make the bearers go back into the balsa about 2 inchs. I've crashed many times with a Ringmaster and they always break right behind the ply so if you extend that back farther it would be an improvement in my opinion.

I was going to build a plane like that and call it the streakmaster.
