The MoBest Build Thread
« on: July 04, 2016, 05:07:12 PM »
I put out the MoBest kit some time ago and never got the chance to build mine.  I have slowed way down on my building but thought I would post pictures as I build my own.  Starting with the fuselage.  Bear with me since I am taking my time.  I have the plan covered with parchment paper.

So, how is parchment paper compared to wax paper?  I have wondered about that.

Russell I think Parchment works much better.  Glue will not stick to it.

Parchment paper does not have wax on it.   Does not leave any residue and even CA will not stick to it.

These pictures show the tail wheel wire epoxied in the tail wheel block and the 1/4" dowell pin piece in place to hold the small wood screws that will hold down the tail weight hatch cover.

Just about finished building the fuselage.  Need to glue on the inboard tripler and sand everything.  Notice the fuel tank shims.  The fuel tank will actually be secured on the back side with RTV Silicone.

Mike have you ever used a tank with the venting going to the outside of the circle. It might work but it might force the fuel out the vents. ~^

I really don't know anything about anything, but I would guess that where the tube terminated inside the take would be much more important?

Now I have to fill in a few places with a little SuperFil and then dope on some carbon fiber veil.  The inboard tripler is on.

This shows carbon fiber veil doped on.  Process - Sand balsa with 320.  Apply two coats Nitrate dope thinned 30%.  Sand lightly with 600 grit sandpaper.  Dope down the CF Veil with the same mixture and applytwocoats of this dope.
Sand lightly again with 600 grit.

Pour some full strength nitrate dope in a container and add as much talcum that will stay suspended in the dope, shake well and let settle for 10 minutes.  Then I brush this on and let dry over night.  I put a heavy coat of this slurry on.

When this dries for a day, i start sanding with 400 grit and then finish with 600 grit.

I I vacuum off the piece and clean with Windex and a rag.  Now you can use whatever color you choose.

This shows the coating of the dope and talcum powder drying.  I will let this dry overnight and then sand smooth .
