Calling Paul Walker -- Link to ACP

In a very tediously long thread of mine, you commented on carbon fiber mat:

Tim,
I use only ACP carbon matt.  I learned this the hard way, just like you have. I cut to shape, lay it down and brush on clear dope thined 50%. It goes through the veil and the sizing nearly instantly, and once through it can go over most any compound curve.
I love it so much I only use it, no tissue here.

Is this the stuff you're talking about: https://store.acpcomposites.com/carbon-fiber-veil ?

(Goodness -- 28 yard rolls.  Well, that will last me for a while...)

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

I’m not Paul but I always ordered from them as well. I ordered three yards of it at the beginning of the year. Shortly after it, I noticed the change on their website to the…uh…rather large order you have to place now.

Good thing I stocked up before they changed everything

  Sounds like an opportunity.

Which one of them do you use? 0.2, 0.3 or 0.5oz? L

I use .2. This is the “uneven” kind, which is the kind you want, because it has less sizing.

Looks like the smallest quantity of .02 one can order is 147 yards and costs over $2000!  Makes my musky fishing obsession look cheap.

I seem to recall that ACP wanted to get out of the hobby side of the business?
Better money in Pickle ball perhaps :)

CSTsales has it in more reasonable quantities.

That's the stuff that wasn't working for me.

edit: BUT:

At the contest yesterday I had conversation with a couple of folks, one who uses the CST stuff with Minwax Polycrylic, and one who uses stuff from Fiberglast with epoxy, and they both reported no problems.

So I just ripped a square of the stuff off of my roll and tried moistening it with plain old water, and it seems to work just fine.  Since using dope on water-soaked silkspan works out A-OK, I think I have found the correct solvent and now have a solution!

If it turns to crap when it dries, I'll report back here.  Otherwise -- all is quiet on the Western Front.
