NEW ATTITUDE CHANGE
« on: September 18, 2009, 07:00:53 PM »
I lost interest and quit working on my Sig Magnum when I realized it was going to be heavier than I had planned, so it has been sitting collecting dust for at least a year. My birthday arrived and I always tell the family and my kids, send money. No socks or underware and they came thru this year. Mom, son, daughter, wife I owe them. Me, I end up with a Ro-Jett 67. Back to the Magnum. So I get to thinking about Al Rabes tube reinforced flaps that he says work on heavy planes and I start thinkin on the Ro-Jett 67. Between making new flaps and a new motor I think this plane has a chance. I have to redo the cowl for a rear muffler and mount the motor and make Al's flaps. I offset it this time about 1/2 degree. Lonestar got a wood order for flaps. And I'm as excited as a pig in szit.....NEW ATTITUDE

Greg,

I still have the Magnum kit you sent to me-----did you use the Sig wing cores or some custom cut?

What do you think it will weigh?

Thanks,
Jim

Well it weighed 60 oz. all together with no paint and no flaps. I already knocked off about 3 oz. by re-doing the stab and elevator as it was 6 3/4 oz. ........So 4 oz. for flaps 5 ounces for paint maybe 68 oz. if I'm lucky. I think I will paint the fuse and monocoat the wings.
I used foam cores from Crist which were way better.

I have seen Richard fly with the RoJet .67. It appears to the most forgiving of these engines. It is happy in a large range of RPMs

While the airplane is following Ted's "Porkyness". the .67 and effective flaps will help. The key thing now is to get flying.

Hi Geno,
It's a 2 inch Randy Smith spinner. I polished it on my buffing wheel.

Greg,

You will love the RO Jett .67 . It is very user friendly. I am using a RE Muffler by Scott Dinger, others are using pipes.

I heard Richard Oliver say a couple of years ago that it will be usable from 7000 to 11000 RPM . I have been using it at very low rpm with great results. Others run it with lower pitch props and higher rs.
