Building the "Challenger 575"

 Howdy folks,

 Here are some build photos from a project I started back in mid May. It's a scaled up 575 square inch version of Keith Sandberg's "Challenger .15". I haven't posted anything on it until now because this has been a "TOP SECRET" project up to this point. For the full scoop on the story behind this, check here:

...built-up 1/4" stab, 3/16" sheet elevator, fin and rudder.

 Just for the heck of it I inlayed a piece of 1/16" music wire within the center 1/64" plywood laminate section of the left/right elevator "joiner".

 Cheap insurance. ;D

As I stated on the other thread/post,  thi is awesome.   Also you say wing tips too much work?   Isn't that what this hobby is about, doing things the way we like and enjoying it.   I sometimes do little tidbits to planes and people ask me why?  I tell them it takes up the time I would waste doingsome other things.

Wayne, I totally disagree! Those tips should never be covered!  They are works of art and completely astounding in the workmanship.  Just put a fuelproof finish on them and leave them where we can see and appreciate them.  You do nice work.

 Thanks guys, I was just being a smart a-- with the wingtip comment. They were a fair amount of work, but I'm happy with the way they came out. I do wish I would have thought to Dremel open the holes under the tip blocks like I did between the ribs on the rest, oh well.

 Earlier tonight I was thinking maybe I should name my next plane "Hiatus". I was thinking this because it seems that I've ended up taking at least a couple of long ones during the last few builds. D>K

 Anyway, the past few nights I've finally gotten back to fiddling with the "575". All of the silkspan work is finally done and there is now a good solid 50/50 clear base on the entire model. I'm thinking now that with one more coat of clear on the wing, another thorough once over with some 800 grit, it'll finally be ready to paint... ;D
